Welcome to the campaign for the Rights of Nature tribunal in Paris!
As the global community prepares for the 21st meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris it is time to face the reality that the systemic changes that we need to address phenomena such as climate change won't come from COPs. We, the people of the world have to step up, right now, and begin creating new systems fit for the challenges of the 21st Century.
Communities and organisations from all over the world are already signing a People's Convention that will formally constitute the International Tribunal for the Rights of Nature on 4 December 2015. The Tribunal is a pioneering example of the kind of governance systems the world needs - institutions that make decisions on the basis of what is best for the Earth community as whole and hold those that harm the community accountable. It is the beginning of a game-changing process that will transform our societies and world for the better. The Tribunal really matters - which is why so many of the world's environmental leaders are now campaigning for the legal recognition of the rights of Nature/ Mother Earth.
I am very honoured to have been invited to be the president of the Tribunal of distinguished judges during its deliberations in Paris on 4 and 5 December 2015. But we need your support to enable this historic event to take place and to establish the Tribunal as a permanent people's institution. In particular we need to fund the travel costs of presenters and judges and to raise the media profile of the Tribunal and its work.
